Welcome back Bob! No more shortcuts Brother.

I want to thank each of you who kept me in your thoughts and prayers over the past 6 weeks…. you managed to pull me back from the dead. I had a strain of E coli that was resistant to antibiotics and infected both lungs. I was not able to breathe on my own, so they kept me on life support and in a medically induced coma for nearly two weeks. Doctors did not expect me to survive and suggested my family prepare for the worst; and if I did survive, doctors would be concerned about brain damage due to lack of oxygen. At least to date I have defied their predictions. Physically, I am returning to normal and feel fine. However, because I have never been very smart, any assessment of brain damage would only be a guess; that is unless the urge to watch Gun Smoke and Wagon Train reruns on TV offers a tell-tale indication.
The support and encouragement I received from my Brothers and Sisters of the 589th Engineer Battalion has been overwhelming. I honestly believe you made the difference between me simply continuing to drift away to meet my maker and my body garnering the strength to fight off the E. coli infection. I especially owe a debt of gratitude to Perry, who not only monitored my progress but was always available to offer encouragement and support to my wife and family…...I know they, and I, will always be grateful. God has graciously given me another day, so I intend to use it in a way that He perceives as wise, which is a characteristic that has not always dominated my life.

I want to let everyone know that I am doing good, They put radioactive seeds in me the Monday after the reunion. I go back in 2 weeks to see how things are going.

Just got off a Facetime call with Bob and it was obvious that he is doing better every day. He has been transferred to a rehab facility in Billings and likes it much better than the hospital. He's still week but is improving. He said he thinks he might be able to go home in a couple weeks or less. All good news!!
