Boat People—thought this might be interesting to you all! In reading this morning’s paper (Tulsa World) they had an article regarding the Freedom Flights. The article was about a local Korean Vet (he took a flight) and his twin brother who after graduation from High School in 1951 talked their Dad into letting them join the Army prior to their 18th Birthday. They were told by the Army they definitely would not go overseas. Well as all know how the Army works they turned 18 on a troop ship going to Korea. The interesting thing to you all is it was the General Pope! Just thought I would share that with you. Also want to say “Happy Father’s Day to all you Dads out there! Welcome Home and looking forward to seeing you in September!

I had a call from Col Don Ramsay's wife yesterday to let me know he has recently had a medical setback. Last year he fell and injured his head, followed by a long recovery. Evidently there have been some residual effects and he is again in a care facility but she hopes he can return home soon as he thinks that is the best medicine of all.
She said he is able to read the computer screen but can't send emails yet. He is also able to receive and read cards. I told her I would put out the word that he needs to receive some get well wishes.
If you have a little extra time shoot him an email or card. Email me if you don't have his mailing address and I'll get it to you.
He really loves the 589th Association and likes to hear all the stories.
Please take a minute to help cheer him up.
Welcome Home all my brothers.

Dennie Pendergrass, myself, Jeannie and Jeannie’s Mother took part in honoring Donnie Rex Boggs at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Aldrich, MO on Memorial day the 25th. We had 30 to 35 family and friends attend and I have to say it was one of the greatest things I have ever experienced. This family needed this and I am so proud that the men of the 589th have made it happen. Dennie said to me yesterday that 45 years ago they brought Donnie home and laid him to rest and this is the first time in all the years since that they have been made to feel that he was important and had not been forgotten. They kept thanking us for doing this. His son who was not born when he went to Nam, Grandson and Great Grandson were in attendance. If anyone knew Donnie Rex Boggs the son would love to hear from them. You can contact Dennie Pendergrass or myself and we would be able to put you in touch with him.

What a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend. We placed the flowers on the grave of Leo Kingrey in a beautiful cemetery in Glasgow, Ky with family members in attendance. It was emotional but the outpouring of thanks from the family was all worth it. For me this is a dream fulfilled. My thanks to all involved in this great endeavor.

My visit to Ronald John Moe's grave site in Anaconda, MT and the flower placing ceremony was more than I could have asked for or expected. I was not prepared for the number of guests and outpouring of gratitude from them for what the 589th is doing to Honor Our Fallen.

Over 100 family and friends of Ron were in attendance as a bugler played Assembly after which I read my presentation. Then the local VFW Color Guard folded and presented the flag to the NOK. I was then honored to participate in the 3 volley rifle salute of which I made up the 7th gun in the firing squad. A bugler sounded taps to close the ceremony. What a Day!
I am receiving nothing but positive reports from our other volunteers that also participated in this monumental Event of Honor. All 26 of our Fallen Brothers graves were represented. on Sat, Sun, or Mon.

Fellow Brothers. Clyde Hutson and I had the privilege of placing flowers on the grave of Rex Boggs today in a beautiful old country cemetery on the northern edge of the Ozark Mountains.
We had about 30 people there including 4 siblings and a son who was born shortly after Rex died.
He is very interested in talking to anyone who knew his dad. He has a very nice son of his own and 2 of the most precious grandchildren that anyone could ask for.
If you served with Rex Boggs, please contact me so I can put you in touch with his Son.

Thanks,
Dennie
