It is with regret that I inform you that I have decided to resign as your President. Without going into details I think we all are best served by my doing this. The By-Laws state that John Miller takes over as your President--Good Luck John!

We have already received 7 requests to be an Honor Guard Volunteer to lay a wreath on one of our Vietnam Losses Grave Sites every year on Memorial Day. However 2 of you failed to include your name. If that was you please re-submit the request and include your name.

If you do not know what this is all about please go to the Sound-Off tab and click on the Adopt a Grave-Site tab for details on how you too can be a Honor Guard Volunteer. If you decide to volunteer please select a Brother's name and fill in your name in the box before you submit it.

If you have any questions concerning this new program please contact any Officer for details. My email is: 589th@589thengineers.com

We Thank You and our Lost Brothers and their families Thank You.

Hello Brothers,
As we prepare to celebrate Thanksgiving with our families again this year please take a moment to think about our Brothers that will not be able to be with theirs. Our 26 Brothers that gave their lives for our great Country. All of our Brothers that have passed as a result of Agent Orange and other Vietnam related issues or for any other reason.

Be truly Thankful for what you have. Travel safe and have a blessed Thanksgiving!

Has anyone seen or heard how well the roads and bridges that we built have held up in Vietnam? For years I've been bitter that as a result of our blood, sweat and tears the communist enjoyed some pretty good roads after we pulled out. Certainly a hell of a lot better than the potted mudholes they had before we got there. On the other hand, I think I'd take quite a bit of pride knowing that maybe our construction efforts have held up over time despite the harsh weather and possible lack of maintence. Does anyone happen to know?

Finally, Happy Thanksgiving to all my brothers out there.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! I sent all our members an email today with three important points. 1. The newly enacted By-Laws are on the website. Let us know if you nave any questions. 2. The new PX page is up and running. Lots of cool things that will be new to some of you. 3. Also about the PX page is the 589th History Book that Dennie Pendergrass and Larry Jinkins wrote. It has been published and is for sale in our PX our on Amazon.com--just search for 589th and you should find it. The book is a great book and a big thanks to Dennie and Larry for their great work and effort!! After you read your email or see the notice here please let us know what you think and if there is something else you think we should try. With our new website and now the new PX page (both done by Perry--a big thank you Perry!!) we are trying to give are members the best we can. After all I learned that Engineers can do just about anything! Hope to see you all in Branson for Reunion 2015!

The comments about the military draft are interesting. I have long thought we should reinstate the draft to instill a sense of responsibility and obligation to to go along with the priveledge of being an American. The nation of Israel has an excellent model system to use as a model. Mandatory military at 18 two yrs for This includes those with physical and mental shortcomingsexemptions include criminal records and drug.It is is considereda disgrace not to allowed to servewomen 3yrs for menwith very few exemtions. mos is determined by psyh and physical examsand rated to determine your assigment.

thank you willy i have and will continue to stand behind him . the people that are serving in this army are true Americans and to see our government treat them the way they do is totally wrong , we need to bring back the draft and just maybe these young people will keep there teeth and there money in there pockets and out of the pockets of our worst enemy , the drug dealers . if we would only kill a few of them the rest will run it may not sound good what i am saying , but it will work. just my thought . carp 67-68
