I view our members demonstrating their generosity during the auction in two ways. First, they bring and donate thousands of dollars worth of items for the auction while expecting nothing in return. Second, they dig into their pockets and purchase the items someone else donated, all the time acting as though they actually need another coffee mug or sweatshirt. It is a wonderful event to witness. The real question to ponder is, "why are our members so generous?" I think the answer reflects the appreciation we feel toward our Brothers, and our thankfulness for the opportunity the reunion provides to reunite with them. It can be a priceless experience. |

The activities of the 589th Association are primarily priced to simply recover costs, such as the fee charged for reunion registration or for various PX items sold. The financial surplus the Association has accumulated over the past 5 years is the result of our members' generosity toward the Association: the surplus is the result of membership donations, gifts, and by far the most has come from the raffle and auction held each year during the Reunion. As if by magic, each year tables of donated items appear Friday afternoon, just in time for the auction. Nobody makes a big deal out of it, the items just start showing up. This year, members attending the reunion donated and purchased $5,500 worth of auction items - I am not sure what the proceeds have been in prior years, but this has to be a record. |

Just want to thank everyone for making this another GREAT REUNION!
I would also like to thank Rich Comiso for nominating and presenting me with the prestigious "The Steel Order of the de Fleury Medal". It was a well-kept secret by many of you that had a part in it. I am humbled and honored to accept this Award on behalf of my 589th Brothers for my contributions to our 589th Association. I will wear it with pride and cherish it forever. With your help and participation we will continue to strive to make the 589th Engineer Battalion Association (Vietnam) one of the best! This Medal would not have been possible without your support. You are the real reason we have come so far in such a short time. Your support of our Officers, Committee Members, Fellow Brothers, and the continued commitment to attend our reunions are what sets us apart from the others. This Medal is as much yours as it is mine. Thank You! ESSAYONS "Let Us Try" :toast: |

To all who purchased a ceramic coffee cup or a stainless steel travel mug at the reunion we have the answer to a question asked. The ceramic cup is definitely dishwasher safe but due to the coloring it is not recommended that you microwave them as each microwave can react differently to painted objects. The travel mug is also dishwasher safe but hand washing is recommend to help avoid scratching, stainless steel should not be microwaved. Hope this answers all questions about them, if not let us know. Thanks!
