James,
How great that you guys had a mini-reunion right here in Winter Haven, FL. That's right I said right here because that is where I am right now. Small world!

If you guys are going to be here for a few day give me a shout and I'll meet you guys somewhere for a donut or something. Crisper's would be nice. 770-366-4411

Jim, What a great little story of old friends getting together! When Perry started the 589th this is the kind of thing I know he had in mind. It was a long time ago that we all were so young and we missed a lot of time apart. This is one of the reasons that if anyone knows of anyone that is eligible for the 589th but is not a member that we get them to become a member! Many of us have been reunited with our Brothers and truly enjoy the relationship today even more so than we did in Nam. Get together s like that are also a good reason to come to the reunion so if anyone has not signed up do it now so you can enjoy the camaraderie and love at a reunion. See you all in Branson

The last part of my post was cut off - this is what happens when you get too windy.

I, for one, am going to send a copy of that resolution to the North Dakota congressional delegation, along with a short narrative describing my dissatisfaction with the VA and the lack of oversight by congress. I am under no misconception that my comments and our resolution will cause the congressional delegation to spring into action, but I will walk away feeling I have done what I can. If we don’t fight the VA, we will have conceded the battle while walking away, deserting our causalities who desperately need our help.

We are all familiar with the latest chapter in the ongoing saga of the Veterans Administration. The deplorable service some of our Brothers have received continues to get worse. I have not personally experienced the problems many of you have experienced, but that is nothing more than luck on my part. As veterans, we hesitate to complain; however, I feel we must do what we can to help our 589th Brothers who have not been as fortunate.
Those of you who were able to attend the 2013 Reunion remember the Veterans Administration resolution we passed unanimously. The resolution, which can be found on our website under the tab 589th Docs, is a call for action by the Administration and others.

We now have 50 members signed up for the reunion! Take a look at Who's Coming on the Reunion tab and then call your buddies who's name you don't see and get them on the stick to get registered. Working on some new things that I think will interest everyone. Since I am from C CO one item will be a travel flask with the 589th Crest on it--gotta take care of my Brothers! Looking forward to a good turn out and and even better time this year. You golfers don't forget to reserve your spot on the course with Jim Swick. Let me know what I can do for you guys. My contact info is listed on the Member page so tell me what you think! Proud to your President and here to serve you! Nick

For those of you who are trying to remember specific events, go to the ORLL section of the History part of this web site. A group of us are also working on having a 589th history book ready for the 2014 Reunion. We are currently at 68 pages including 16 pages of photographs.

To Billy Brown (Old Jail Bird)-
Billy - happy to hear from you, but sorry to hear about your medical issues. Hang in there. You and I went to Heavy Equipment School together. The old barracks at Fort Leonard Wood were there until the early 1990s; now the area is housing. We loved the cooks, especially those of us who on occasion lived on C-rations for long periods of time. Take care. Larry
