Thanks to Perry and all the guys for your hard work on this website. It has helped bring back a lot of memories. I'm really happy to see there are still a few of us left alive.
I served in Company D from March 1966 until October 1968. I was injured and lost a few fingers in October of 1968 and was shipped to the hospital. I received a medical retirement in April of 1969. I have always felt bad that I was never able to say a proper goodbye to all of the guys I served with. At any rate it's great to be able to touch base again and would love to hear from any of the guys that are still around from my old platoon.

I'm glad to hear you are making progress on the cancer. We are all thinking of you and wish you the best! We know you can beat this Buddy. Please keep us informed on how you're doing.

You're in my thoughts and prayers Brother.

Just a note to let you know how I am doing. Finished up 7 weeks of Chemo and Radiation at the Ann Arbor V.A. Will not know if the cancer has been cured or not until May. Another great thing happened while in the hospital suffered a heart attack. So sometime a 3 way by-pass will have to take place. Sorry I didn't get this out sooner. Its been a real tuff 3 months.
Thanks Jim Payne

Bob,

Thanks for the heads-up on the latest spam post to our Guestbook. To answer your question, How much hacking does the 589th site get? We get at least 10 spam Website Comments (that little form at the bottom of each page) every day. We also get a few fake spam posts for the Reunion, VA Questionnaire, New Member Ap, and Reunion Registration forms a week. On one occasion we had over 100 spam posts to our Guestbook in one day. It is very difficult, annoying and time consuming to try to combat this BS. We have added a more complex CAPTCHA, which stands for "Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart" before submitting your post and that helped but it does not stop all the spam as you see. We'll keep working on a better solution!

Please be gentle on C Co's EM Platoon wanting to "put it all behind them". That is a personal issue and I think they're working on it. Hell they seemed almost normal for most of last years reunion!

Welcome Home Brothers

Perry, I see we have a post from “miss marie loan firm” offering to make us loans and clear our debt. I don’t remember her myself - she was undoubtedly assigned to the EM Platoon of C Company, which answers a lot of questions for the rest of us. I understand C Company is trying to put all that behind them now, so I will let it rest – after all, I have always been an advocate of “what happened in Vietnam stays in Vietnam.” Besides, that is not the point of this post. My question is how much hacking activity does our website receive? I know that some junk gets through in spite of you monitoring the site continuously – I think it is impossible to keep it all out. But how much hacking activity does the site receive that we as users don’t even know about?

Guys (especially the Boat People), I wanted to let you know I've recently had a couple opportunities to interview Col Snoke, the original Bn Commander. I have about two hours of the interview on tape which we will try to figure out a way for everyone to access. He said to tell everyone Hello and that he considers his tour with the 589th his best assignment in the Army and that he thinks of all the soldiers frequently.

I just wanted to echo Bob Spencer's comment on the web site. I can't imagine the effort it took Perry to re-work the site, but it is amazing and easy to navigate. Also the ORLL's Dennie Pendergrass is working on are great. I am amazed at the work that was accomplished by the 589th during my 14 months there.

Thanks for the email reminder regarding the website updates. I try to catch the postings on the Guestbook each day, but often forget, or don’t’ take time to look around at the rest of the site like I should. I occasionally look at the websites of other organizations, and each time I am reminded just how good our website is. Perry, you have done a tremendous job. There is no better site on the Internet.

In addition to the Guestbook Page, I have enjoyed seeing the Map Page come together. Both Larry Jinkins and David Harbach have a unique talent for bringing out the historical perspective of the locations they have documented. I appreciate their great work and the contribution it makes – it really helps bring perspective to what the 589th Engineers accomplished.
