Take a look at your calendars and you will see the reunion is only a little over 6 months away! Time sure flies. We are getting sign ups already and a lot of planning is going on. Watch your email for upcoming things and especially the Golf Outing being planned by Golf Chairman Jim Swick! Jim has set up an outing and the final details are being worked out now. You will see something soon! Lets get those sign ups and hotel reservations made now so your calendars are locked up for the reunion. See you there!

Hello Howard, and everybody else that is trying to view our photos on an iPad or iPhone. I have been looking for an another way to view these albums w/o using Flash however none of these offer a good alternative.
There apparently is a work-around according to Clyde Hutson though. Here is what he had to say a few weeks ago on the subject: "There is one issue that is proving difficult and that concerns viewing photos on an iPad. The photos require Adobe Flash Player which is not supported by an iPad or iPhone. I am sorry to say that the best way I can come up with is to download a browser from the app store called Puffin Browser Free. There are other browsers that will do this but most if not all the others are not free. I installed this on my iPad and it seems to work. Having said that I will probably not use it except on rare occasions where a PC is not available and I want to see the photos at that moment." I know this is probably not the answer you were looking for but it at least sounds like a way to see the photos. If any of you have a better option please let us know. |

In thinking of Bob's, Perry's, Nick's and my comments, I was amazed at the "sweep of history" of the Vietnam War. Three generations fought the war: some of the teenagers of the late 1930s and early 1940's who fought in WWII also fought in Vietnam; some of the teenagers of the late 1940s and early 1950s who fought in the Korean War also fought in Vietnam; and many of us teenagers of the late 1950s and 1960s fought in Vietnam (A Company did other things in addition to fighting). Vietnam affected the people of America, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam across multiple generations. And don't forget the Australians and Koreans who fought in Vietnam. Being in the "dwindling 1/3d of Vietnam veterans" is certainly unsettling. I'm beginning to feel like some part of history that needs to be taken off the shelf occasionally to be dusted off. How do we deal with this? Perhaps we can somewhat deal with it by being honored to have known those who have gone before us; perhaps by honoring them by living our remaining lives with appreciation for the time we still have that they don't; and perhaps by honoring them by living each day the best we can whether those days are good days or bad days. Meanwhile, we are part of history - as far as I'm concerned "that other great generation" who loved their country and sacrificed for it.

The comment about only 1/3d of Vietnam veterans being all that are left alive is about right. Us "young" guys forget that the war started with "advisor" action in the early half a decade before we got there, and that many of the senior officers and NCOs had previously fought in World War II and the Korean War (we had one Korean War veteran in our platoon). This older "John Wayne" generation makes up the bulk of those who are already gone. Its us "youngsters" who are still left. I'm not ready to go yet - A Company needs me.

If you would like to see photographs of what Vietnam looks like today: 1. Go to "www.old.wikimapia.org," 2. Drag the screen over to the area of Vietnam you want to see and zoom in, 3. Click on "Map Type", 4. Click on "Google Paroramio", 5. Photograph squares will pop up, 6. Click on the photograph you want to look at until it fills your computer screen.

Bob has nailed with it his comment on being aware of members that have passed. We are working on a procedure that will accomplish this. It will start with our Board of Directors but each of you will need to help us. Watch for an email soon on how we plan to do this. Thank you to Bob for a great introduction in what we plan to do. Hope this finds you all well and you in the southern snow belt warm!
