Although the news saddened me, I appreciate Perry sharing the death notices of two of our Brothers. The information sparked my interest in to find out just how fast we Vietnam veterans are dying – it feels as though it occurs far too frequently. After searching for the statistics it became apparent that the statistics are not very reliable – some sources indicate that out of the 2,709,918 veterans who served in country, only one-third of us are still alive today, and at this rate we will all be gone within a couple of years. Those numbers are obviously wrong and were probably developed by a highly paid non-veteran government bureaucrat. A realistic number is that 300 of us die each day – 10,000 of us each year. And that rate will increase as we age. My conclusion: with the Grim Reaper casting that large a net, he is bound to catch some of us with every throw. We simply cannot allow our Brothers to pass without the final recognition they deserve. If we cannot find the means to recognize their achievements as they pass, how can we expect the public to do so?

Once again I am saddened to report that I have confirmed from their obituaries that two more of our members have passed away without our knowing about it.
Charlie Walker from A Co passed away on 7-15-2012 and Hoyt Woods from B Co passed away on 3-4-2010. I think we need to talk about how to keep in contact with all our Brothers a little better so that years don't go by before we find out we have lost one. It was too hard to find them to not have the resolve to stay in contact with them! Rest in peace Brothers. |

Hard to find a suitable picture as there are not many of me in Nam left. Being able to put names to pictures is easier with pictures from Nam. At least for me it is. If this doesn't work you'll be hearing from me later Perry. May need some help with the Gravatar.

Hey Guys,
I have reluctantly installed a more difficult CAPTCHA to make it harder for the Spammers out there that just posted over 100 bogus messages. Sorry about that but this is nothing new and we have always had to deal with it so it is what it is. Just enter the first group of numbers or text followed by a space and then the second group. If this does not stop the spam I will need to put the Guestbook "On Approval" which means your post will only be accepted after we approve it. Thanks for your patience! |

Guys, A brother needs our help. His name is Steve Vinson, he thinks he was in B Company as a mail clerk back in 70 to 71 but has no memory & is being denied claims by the VA because of no memory. Does his name ring a bell to anybody. He says he has photos of himself in country.
Hey Fred Buze, I saw this on our site - hopefully we can help him out. Tom |

Once again much appreciation on the website work . I was noticing the map and 589th locations that were highlighted. We could highlight Kontum and I would think even Dak To, as Earth Moving Platoon from B Co. really got into some very heavy stuff there. We were by ourselves for awhile then the 19th Combat Engineers joined up with us and we then became TDY to their outfit for some time. We were clearing and working roadbed about 10 or 12 miles ahead of our Asphalt people as I remember it.. which of course is up for grabs considering absolute historical accuracy. Later all you Folks, its always good to visit!
