Hello Perry,
The 589th Engineer Battalion Association would not exist without your dedication and hard work. This excellent, new web-site is icing on an already great cake. Thanks. Larry Doff |

For those of you that were asking and replying to all the avatar posts, I have turned that feature back on.
You can click the link next to the "Email" field and set up a free Gravatar account that will automatically Insert your saved avatar which is linked to your email address or you can upload your image but you will need to do that for every post. I suppose I'll have to enable the smiley faces now huh? |

Hey guys,
Nice work in finding a work-around for the iPad flash problem Clyde but before any of you install any software on your iPads to view the photos give me a day or two find a way to display them without using Flash. I think I have a good alternative for viewing them without a need to add anything to your Apple devices and will update all of you soon. Thanks |

I have looked at the new Web. site and I think it is a great job. The pictures I had you put on for me is missing or maybe you are not finished putting them all on. I think it was easy to find what you wanted to look up. Great Job!!! Bill

I should add that if anyone decides to use the Puffin Web Browser free to make sure that they do download the free version. I believe there is a paid version also. I see no sense in paying for something myself that would in all likelihood only be used on a rare occasion.

The new web site is fabulous and Perry has done great work on it. There is one issue that is proving difficult and that concerns viewing photos on an iPad. The photos require Adobe Flash Player which is not supported by an iPad or iPhone. He and I were talking and trying to figure out how to view the photos on an iPad. I am sorry to say that the best way I can come up with is to download a a browser from the app store called Puffin Browser Free. There are other browsers that will do this but most if not all the others are not free. I installed this on my iPad and it seems to work. Having said that I will probably not use it except on rare occasions where a PC is not available and I want to see the photos at that moment. Does anyone else have another work around for viewing Flash on an iPad that works better? I am sure everyone would like to hear about it if so. At least Puffin Free Browser will get the job done in a fashion.

Bob, and anyone else that wants to have their pictures or video posted on our website, there are several was to go about that.
1. For photos, the best way is to scan them or have them scanned at a Wall Mart, pharmacy or similar location and send them to me on a cd or flash drive. You can also attach them to an email and send them to 589th@589thengineers.com. For the best results be sure when you scan them to scan only one picture at a time. 2. You can send them to me by either Fed-Ex or UPS and I will scan them and return them. If you decide to send them let me know and I will give you the address. 3. For videos, copy them to a dvd and send to me. Hope this helps and we encourage all our members to send their photos and videos to share with your 589th brothers. |
