The new web site is fabulous and Perry has done great work on it. There is one issue that is proving difficult and that concerns viewing photos on an iPad. The photos require Adobe Flash Player which is not supported by an iPad or iPhone. He and I were talking and trying to figure out how to view the photos on an iPad. I am sorry to say that the best way I can come up with is to download a a browser from the app store called Puffin Browser Free. There are other browsers that will do this but most if not all the others are not free. I installed this on my iPad and it seems to work. Having said that I will probably not use it except on rare occasions where a PC is not available and I want to see the photos at that moment. Does anyone else have another work around for viewing Flash on an iPad that works better? I am sure everyone would like to hear about it if so. At least Puffin Free Browser will get the job done in a fashion.

Bob, and anyone else that wants to have their pictures or video posted on our website, there are several was to go about that.
1. For photos, the best way is to scan them or have them scanned at a Wall Mart, pharmacy or similar location and send them to me on a cd or flash drive. You can also attach them to an email and send them to 589th@589thengineers.com. For the best results be sure when you scan them to scan only one picture at a time. 2. You can send them to me by either Fed-Ex or UPS and I will scan them and return them. If you decide to send them let me know and I will give you the address. 3. For videos, copy them to a dvd and send to me. Hope this helps and we encourage all our members to send their photos and videos to share with your 589th brothers. |

The iPad (tablets) should be corrected. Please let me know if you have any problems with viewing any aspects of our site on any tablet.
As far as your smart phones such as iPhone and others go, I will be working on that next. Keep checking back to test your devices...we'll get it! Thanks for your patience. |

I really love the new website. Good work Perry! There is one thing however. Isn't there always.
It works perfect on my pc but not so much so on my ipad. Does anyone else have a problem viewing the new site on an Apple device? Even if it stays as is I am very happy and will just use my pc to access it. Again good work Perry! |

The new website is very nice and after viewing William Jarvinen's photo of C Co being in Phan Rang still confuses me as I was in C Co between Nha Trang and Bam Me Thouet at the same time frame he has posted, I've said it before, there may have been two C Company's at the same time, Very mind boggling! Welcome Home To All!

I want to thank the 589th for letting me becaome a member of your group. Not being in the the 589th I was in the 553rd (float bridge) that was attached at one time. I'm always looking for members of not only the 553rd (from 2nd tour) but also for others from the 511th (panel Bridge) from my 1st tour. The 511th was based in An Khe and the 553rd was based in Tuy Hoa but had platoons all over the place. Once again thank you and WELCOME HOME.

I didn’t mean to start anything inappropriate with my “avatar” question, but I remain curious. I have heard of the phrase avatars used in science fiction movies, which I never watch, but not in reference to anything you would upload to a website. I do not remember the term used in Vietnam, although it does sound like something C Company’s EM platoon could have exposed the rest of us to. We heard rumors as to the amount of cream they requisitioned, but I never tied their excessive use of creams and ointments together with avatars (C Company’s desire for cream and ointment is also a subject that deserves further explanation). Anyway, Mr. Hickox’s question and Perry’s response left me believing there is something to these avatars I don’t understand. Or, could I have been sucked into one of your “southern, good old boy” jokes?

Hey guys, thank you all vey much for the compliments on the new 589th website.
I have received feedback from over 25 members on it and they have been overwhelmingly positive. We still have a few bugs (avatars) to work out but all in all I think it's ready to launch to all our members and the world as early as tomorrow. It was 3 months in the making and I want to thank all of you for your input and encouragement along the way. I could not have done it without you. I hope everybody enjoys it and "Welcome Home!" |

I can see now we need to resolve this "avatar" problem before it goes viral. But, hey that's another story for another time. I understand that's one reason folks live "Up in the Tundra", avatars die off every winter.

Now bob are you saying that you never had to go on sick call for an infestation of avatars while in nam? There was a cream they gave us that took care of the nasty little buggers.
