Although the 2014 Reunion is several months away, it is not too early to register. As the first ones to register, Terry Story and his wife Rebecca get the Early Bird award. Right behind the Storys is Roger Collis and his wife Charlotte, along with David Goodrow and his wife Christine. I appreciate their enthusiasm. I encourage you to visit the Reunion News Tab for all the details.

Bob and Perry, I agree with you. we have lost of our brothers in the past 5 years. Makes me wonder who will be next. I know I all ways have something to say at our yearly meeting, but I don't mean to hurt any ones feelings I am so glad I found out about our reunion. When you can reconnect with people that you served with 40 years ago, that makes you feel great. And that my brothers is why I say if you have not been to a reunion you need to come and join us.

Truth be known Bob, it may be even worse than we know. Just contemplate how many of our 589th Brothers we were not able to locate given the efforts to find them and even our current members that we have lost contact with over the last 5 years. What happened to them? Very sad! At least I am very blessed to have reconnected with so many of my old 589th Army buddies like yourself before it was too late!

This morning, for some reason known only to my unconscious mind, I was drawn to the listing all those we lost in Vietnam, and particularly all those we have lost since returning home. My God, it is sad! It is our reality, but still disheartening. How could all those young men have gotten so old, so sick and so tired, so fast? We have lost too many, too soon. I am saddened to my very core.

For those of you who don't believe my story below, you only have to look to the earlier comments of our brothers from companies other than C Company about Santa never visiting them. Santa always came to C Company. It has to do with being naughty or nice , good or bad. We were always careful not to point the 50 cals at him as he flew in. Santa appreciated that. He also appreciated having a latrine that had not been blown up by those who had avoided the evening's Character Guidance class.

Boy - Nick was on a roll about C Company. I must ensure the historical record is correct. EM Platoon was sent to the DMZ in early 1968 because of its outstanding accomplishments in character building. We could character build under all conditions, sober or otherwise, under fire or not. We led the Battalion in character building to include having the highest attendance at Character Guidance classes, and the Marines on the DMZ needed some of that. Once we had provided outstanding levels of character building to the Marines and the 1st Cav infantry types, the word came down from on high that the 589th had moved to Phan Rang where the battalion was falling into moral decay - led by A Company. Horrible things were going on in the Phan Rang sin city. Members of the Battalion were going to the required Character Guidance classes, and couldn't even remember they had been to the classes. So EM Platoon left its comfortable dirt holes and the friendly native snipers and packed up its wholly unwashed clothing to rescue the battalion from degradation. Some challenges, however, are just too great - but 46 years later EM Platoon is still trying to rescue the Battalion by setting the example in character. P.S. For those of you who feel shame in not remembering the Character Guidance classes, talk to Padre Nick - who is experienced in such matters. .

I was looking for Kenneth Bossaller, one of our A Co members that we had recently lost contact with. Unfortunately I am saddened to report that I have confirmed from his obituary that he passed away on Sep 20,2013. Kenny was carrying a heavy burden of accidentally shooting and killing Jessie Redhawk, one of our A Co Vietnam losses. I think he was able to make piece with some of his close friends in the time he was reconnected with us. I, and I know several other A Co. members, tried to encourage Kenny to come to a reunion but unfortunatly he never did. Here is the link to his Obituary: http://www.findagrave.com/cg i-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=11 7492072 "Rest in piece Brother!"

Nick I am proud of C Co.and happy to be associated with ya'll. I always wondered why C Co was sent up North.I'm sure it was because they wanted the very best. The best WHAT is the question. Just kidding. It's fun to stay in touch and tease each other like we did back when.

I, for one, truly enjoy the notoriety that C Co has earned! We have worked hard to be the envy of the Battalion and it is good to see our hard work be recognized! With that said it should be warming up for Bob, John and Tommy as all of C Co is by now "talking" about you guys being cold and the hot air should be warming you up. It is very easy for us C Co guys to help you out as we are C CO and we are always carrying the load. When they sent one Platoon (the EM Platoon) up Country in Nam to improve roads, airfields and LZ's we did such good work that the Battalion missed our efforts and asked we come back. 18th Brigade let us go and brought a whole Engineer Battalion to replace our little Platoon. It took them until the end the war and they still could not finish what we started and we even left instructions! Ah, what an honor to be C CO!! Love you Brother's and hope the warming trend earns us even more kudos!
