As Perry said you can go to the website and fill out an application to be a member of the Association and have access to names and contact info of your old buddies. Abe , I was in A co. during the move to Phan Rang and remember it very well.I thought it ironic that the LSTs,were WWII left overs but had Japanese crews.

Abe, you correct as that is when the move took place. The Earth Moving Platoon was TDY with the 14th Combat Engineers near the DMZ.. We did not join you guys untill a little later. Maybe someone that ws there will say something. Sure was a long time ago!

I remember our Bn moving from qui nhon to phan rang on this big LSTs in 68 CoC !

I was in the 589th Engr. April1966 until I was" Excessed Out" by the Battalion in Dec.1966. At the time they had us all berth in the "old hospital";Any new guys coming in to the 589th;were on the way for AIT ,two weeks later.I never got orders for AIT,My MOS was 62E20.I still am looking for someone that might remember me;before you left 4 'Nam!

The people at Military Historic Tours stated that the Sand Castle's willingness to let us bring our own alcoholic beverages to the reunion is a really big deal. Very few places will do that. Of course, this doesn't mean much to the Bible Studying - Prohibition group of C Company, but may be of significance to the remainder of the 589th.

After leaving the reunion I visited with John Powell, Director of Operations for Military Historical Tours, Inc. located at 13198 Centerpointe Way, Ste 202, Woodbridge, VA 22193-5285, jpowell@miltours.com, 540-729-1318. Military Historical Tours specializes in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam tours. Besides having established tours each year, they will set up tailored tours for small groups. He says that a tour from the West Coast to Vietnam will cost somewhere around $4,500 including air fare, hotels and meals. He is willing to send someone from his staff to our next reunion if there is enough interest in setting up a tour.
