To Gary Burns and all others of the Phan Rang to Dalat road construction team - the road was QL 11 when we were building it, and it is now National Highway 27. Many photos of it are on Wikimapia, and you can follow it by satellite on Wikimapia. It looks great today, and has all new bridges. All of the local Vietnamese I know in California know the road and the hydroelectric plant at Song Pha. We left something good behind (and we also left QL 19 from Quin Nhon to Pleiku behind). To anyone who isn't finding anyone they knew in Vietnam â?? you should hang out with Company A, they are really a cool bunch of Guys (avoid Company C - they are different for reasons that will become apparent during the reunion).

Just read Pery's E-mail about the passing of William Rach. I was Rach's replacement in Jan. 1968, becoming the CO's driver. Rach took me under his wing and helped me understand all the details of life in Vietnam. When he left, he gave me his entire Playboy collection.I'll always remember the day I started driving Cpt. Campbell on my own, I had been trained by a very good soldier.Rest in peace brother.

Reading Bob's on why atend the reunion got me thinking why am I attending? So far I've not met anyone I knew in Vietnam. Ive only met one guy who was there at the same time I was. So why go visit with a bunch of strangers? In 69 I was a nobody going no place, and about to be drafted so I decided to join the army and get it over with . I got stationed at Ft Lenard Wood and after a few months Decided I'd go crazy if I had to spend my 2 yrs there So I Vol. for Viet. thinking it was the fastest way out. In Viet. They gave me my own 5 ton dump and put me to building roads and they gave me my own M16 in case somebody didn't want me building roads. For the first time in my life I became a part of something bigger then myself, maybe the only time. I saw two lane cow paths become two lane paved roads, I saw the pass from song pha to Don Doung widened and paved. I served with a great bunch of guys, only 2 of which I have seen since I've returned. I' was glad to leave Viet but I left a lot more than a year of my life there. It has affected my views on life and politics. Unlike Bob Viet has never been far from my mind in the last 40 yrs. When people ask me what I did in Viet I like tell them I Helped paved the way to Saigon for the North Viet. They don't know what I'm talking so then I have to explain. At the 589th renion if I say I helped pave the way to Saigon for the N. Viet no explaination is needed.

Just read Pery's email with the list of attendees for this years reunion and see 58 sign ups and over 100 people with guest. Sure will miss those of you that were unable to sign up. Lot of comments about location and cost. If that is why you did not attend then call a brother who is going and give him ideas to bring up at the business meeting as to what to do next year. We all have a say in what we do but if we do not let our voice be heard at the right time do not complain later. Come on C Company you can let me know your feelings and I will make them known at the meeting. Those of you who were in Nam when I was know I aint bashful! See you soon Brothers!

Diane - We really hope you and Cirilo make it. The reunion would not be the same without the two of you. I am certain CPT Comiso would like to see you as well. Tell cousin Joe to leave the Disneyland area and come to the Heartland - we would like to see him as well. Larry

BOB, LIKE THEY SAID, YOU HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD.I TOO COULDN'T WAIT TO GET HOME FROM NAM.I LEFT THERE WITH THE THOUGHT OF NEVER SEEING ANYONE AGAIN.I had NIGHTMARES FOR A LONG TIME AFTER COMING HOME. WHEN PERRY CALLED ME ABOUT HAVING A REUNION, I WAS ESTATIC AND WHEN HE CAME TO MY 40TH WEDDING ANIVERSARY, I WAS OVERWHELMED. WHEN WE HAD THE FIRST REUNION,I WAS AS THEY SAY " IN SEVEN HEAVEN"THERE WASN'T ANYTHING BETTER THAN SEEING THE GUYS I LIVED WITH FOR A YEAR. IT MADE ME REALIZE I WASN'T THERE ALONE. THANKS PERRY.
