I've been reading with interest the comments about experiences returning from Vietnam. A young soldier who had just returned from Afghanistan told me his generation of soldiers consider our generation of Vietnam soldiers to be the "gold standard" of how they measure themselves. I expressed amazement - pointing out you only had to look at pictures of us compared to today's pictures of today's soldiers (always buttoned up in kevlar no matter how hot). But, watching history channel our generation showed some crazy courage under fire. A Vietnamese friend of mine told me it was important for us to know the gratitude his generation (about 10 years younger than us) had towards us U.S. soldiers, because his generation was able to grow up in a democracy before it was all lost to the NVA. That growing up period led to his deciding to take to the South China Sea in a small boat to get out of Vietnam and find his way to the U.S..

RIP Brother! I spoke with Ralph Downing and he had just spoken to Gowan a few weeks ago. We are starting to see more and more Nam Vets passing. Sad but true! Hope you are all well, hope to see you all in September!!!

Sad to say we lost another brother of the 589th: Glenn D. "Moose" Gowen, passed on May 25, 2022 in Boonville, Indiana. He was a member of B Co. RIP Brother.

I’ve been thinking, since the economy is rising so much so fast, I don’t see where I can afford to go back to Missouri this September, from California. My niece and nephew as will as myself were looking forward to seeing all.

To all of our Honor Our Fallen Volunteers, past and present, that have sacrificed a portion of their Memorial Day weekend to place flowers on our 589th Brother’s graves in remembrance of their ultimate sacrifice to our great country; thank you from all of us. Your unselfish dedication to our Vietnam losses by attending their final resting place is truly of the highest order of remembrance.

We lost another brother. Joseph Reischman , D company (boat person) passed away on May 13 2022. Information can be found on the website hopkinslawver.com. Uniontown OH. We served together in Happy Valley on the air strip project. Rest in peace brother.
