My name is Jim Casto, I started out with the 687th Landclearing Co. under the 18th Engr Bde, 35th Engr Group from June of 1970 to Nov or Dec when the 687th De- Activated, I transfered to the 84th Engr Bn, D Co in An- Khe, We moved from An-Khe to a place I called Con-Soom, I may be saying it wrong. Con-Soom was located in between Nha-Trang and Bamethout just above the Nha-Trang Pass. The whole D Co, 84th Engr Bn because we moved so far from An-Khe now became C Co, 589th Engr Bn, I never met anyone from any other Co with-in the 589th Engr Bn and never even knew where Bn Headquarters was located. When I left Viet-Nam in April of 1971, Co C was still in Con-Soom. The Company Commander went by the name of Croft, Captain, I was A 62B20 Heavy Equipment Mechanic and the Motor Sgt Was SSG Nettles and the Motor Pool Officer was CWO Grovenberg. Does anyone out there remember any of this?

Good to see some familiar names from HHC Personnel shop. Alan Byrd and Jim Bond, right off the top. Charles Alexander, too, and Bill Smith 'Smitty.' Glad to hear you are still with us. Has anyone heard from Dave Schmidt, Dave Sciara, Roy Nichols or Hank Fung?

I attended Basic and AIT at FLW August through November 1987 as a member of D-589th. I was fortunate enough to be serving with 43rd ENGR Co. 2/3 ACR when the final class of trainees showed up with their drill Sergeants as an auxillary platoon. I felt that it was a good sign that I would make it through the coming conflict. Essayons, Veterans!
