hi,served 1968-69 d-co. an ke then moved down to phang rang then up at the base of a lake , wth a dam forget the name tent city. I drove a duce and 1/2 joann,CT. on side doors .. supply base was dalat golf ,colleges,brass etc. you get the picture right .from jungle to mansions,houses cobblestone roads etc. wow!! ANYONE OUT THERE TRIP

Believe it or not I was the very first person to arrive at Ft, Hood Tx .that was reporting to the 589th in early 1966. When I arrived I couldn't even locate the 589th, so I went to the Provost Marshalls office with a copy of my orders and they couldn't identify the 589th either. They later told me to go to the "Old Hospital Area" find a bunk and stay there. Several days later personnel started to arrive. The first Sergeant Major of the 589th arrived and sort of took me under his wing. He made me temporary Battalion Clerk until the real Batallion Clerk arrived. I remained in HHC and was made a message runner. I lived in Killeen, Tx with my wife until the unit received deployment orders . I remember the train ride to Oakland, Ca, and boarding the troop carrier General John Pope. After a 18day voyage we arrived in Qui-Nhon, where we unloaded and moved by convoy on Hwy QL-19 to our permanent base camp. I remember LTC Snoke, Ltc Grum, and I worked for Cpt. Doff.
