I have finally updated our Losses Since Vietnam menu item.
There are 2 options when hovering over the "Losses Since Vietnam" tab. One is for "All Losses" which includes all of our Brothers we know have passed and the other one is Recent Losses" which include Brothers that were reported lost in either 2024 or 2025. These names are also on the "All Losses" page as well. After 2025 I will document only those that were reported in the current year. If you see an Obituary Link next to someone, clicking on it will open their obit. If you don't see that link it means we were never provided it or I was not able to find one. Your feedback is always appreciated. |

Jennifer - we have a 589th history book. I just checked, and it is still being sold on Amazon. Type in "larry jinkins 589th" to find it. If I remember correctly, B Company was at Phan Rang Air Force Base in 1969.
You have to understand that Nick gets confused. I think he meant that your Dad was listed on the B Company roster. But, we have an Association roster of those that we've located since 2009 and he is not listed as one of the soldiers we've been being able to find since 2009. We will be having a Reunion just outside of Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri the first week of September. You and your family are invited to attend. The reunion information is on this website at "2025 Reunion". |

Jennifer, the person that would normally reply to you is on a trip for a few days and might be away from his computer. However, I was able to see your Dad's name on a copy of a report our Association has of all members that served with the Battalion. We have a list of all members that we found and have been talked to but your Dad is not on that list. I am from C Company but hopefully someone from B Company may remember him and could help you. The Battalion's main objective was to construct things such as roads, bridges, airfields, landing zones and any associated buildings and structures. We were Construction Engineers and not Combat Engineers. I hope you find information from a member who was there with him. I am sorry for your loss and our prayers our with you and your family.

Happened to be reading the 589th Facebook page and came across Tom Leasure's post about the passing of Ron ( Chief ) Mulanax on Jan 11, 2025. So sorry to hear of another Brother's passing. May he rest in peace.
I will add Ron to our Fallen Brother Since Vietnam page along with a link to his obituary page. |

Honor Our Fallen 2025. Memorial Day this year will be Monday, May 26. We will once again be placing flowers on the graves of our 589th Engineer Battalion brothers who died in Vietnam like we do every Memorial Day. I will be contacting those of you who have helped in the past to confirm that you will be going again this year to honor a brother. For anyone who has not had this privilege and wishes to help this year please send me a note or give me a call. We will be visiting twenty-six graves in nineteen states and sending cards to sixty-five next-of-kin whom we remember also. We are unique in this special honor among all veteran organizations to my knowledge and we should be proud of our dedication to those who died in Vietnam those many years ago.
Denis Cowand Poole Honor Our Fallen Coordinator Reply Thank you for continuing to organize the Honor Our Fallen program again this year. Please put me down for honoring SP4 Anthony "Tony" Duty in Whitesburg, KY.
I would be proud to decorate his grave. If there are others that sign up for Tony, please let me know so we can hopefully all attend together. Perry |

Perry seems like then I find and locate a member of our unit that they have died. Steven E. Toth 1967 roster B. C0mpany 589th Engr. Bn. Steven's wife got back to me after three attempts on Face Book to let me know that Steven died six years ago (2018)? of cancer,
agent orange. There was no obituary, and he donated his remains to the University of Oklahoma. I asked his age, but she didn't respond. So sad, brothers please be ready to leave, our time is getting shorter each day! Hope to see y'all at the reunion in September. Reply Roger, so sorry to hear about Steven's passing. I'm glad you were able to find out about it though. May he rest in peace.
It's always sad to hear there was no obituary for one of our Brothers. We have noted that for quite a few of them. The one that bothers me the most was Chuck Fleming. He had two sons that not only did not provide an obit but also did not arrange for any service or visitation. I would have liked to at least have had the option of attending even though he was in CA and I am in GA. Thanks again for letting us know about Steven. |

On this date April 10, 1968, I returned to the US after having spent almost a year on an extended senior trip with most of the 589th Engineers that arrived by the USS John Pope. We were lucky, no blessed to have made it back to our loved ones and marry and start families and live our lives. May the 26 soldiers of the 589th that loss their lives in that conflict never be forgotten. For those that still survive, thanks for your service and best of health. Hope to see you at Ft Leonard Wood in Sept. 2025 for our last Battalion reunion.
