You will see two pictures of Song Mao on page 124 of the 589th book (589th Engineer Battalion (Construction): Engineers at War in Vietnam) that is available at our PX. One picture is of Song Mao during the war; the other picture is of Song Mao as it looks now.

It is hard to believe how hard life has become for some people. Diane Silva lost members of her family in 2018 and 2019. Then Cirilo passed away last September. Today (Memorial Day) I called Diane to let her know that we have not forgotten her and Cirilo, and learned that Diane is in the hospital after a major car accident. She has numerous broken bones and has lost much of the feeling in her hands. I guess all we can do for her is pray.

Thanks Nick. Every day at this point of life is a Memorial Day. Hardly a day goes by I don't remember those that didn't return alive from combat zones and have fallen in service of their country ! God Bless the USA !

in the summer of 69 D company @ PhuQui sent personnel to Song Mao to build the firebase for the5/27 Arty
I surveyed the construction of the base and Terry Holland was the Lt in charge.
I never knew the name of the FB until now

B Co. 589th went through SONG MAO in the fall of 1969 repairing the road from Phan Rang down to Phan Thiet. I also ran 2 small supply convoys to Song Mao in 1970.NEXT TO THE aIRSTRIP WAS FB SALLY, THEY HAD 2 175 CANNONS AND 2 8INCH HOWITZERS. Hello, I served with the 3-506th, 101st Abn. (Oct. 67- Oct. 68) and we had a number of battles at Song Mao. I am writing my sixth book about my battalion and would like to know if any of you fine 589th members have any aerial photos of Song Mao, especially of the airstrip and French buildings. Hope everyone made through the Easter storms safe and undamaged.

My dad was there in 67 -68 Joe Davila he passed away in 1998 he is at Fort Sam Houston. I would love to know more or see pictures he didn't share much with us.

Please let me know as soon as possible if you hear of another of our 589th Brothers passing away. I am still trying to get sympathy cards to the Families as soon as I can.Thanks for your help and Welcome Home
