December takes a large toll on the health of older Americans. I want to encourage all of my fellow brothers in arms to take care of your health. Our immune systems are not as robust as they were when we were younger. We are all eligible for VA health care at no monthly premium and no or a small co-pay depending on your VA disability. You may get your medicines from the VA cheaper than from Medicare Part D drug plans. There is also no income screening for Vietnam veterans meaning we all qualify for health care regardless of income. Best wishes to all you, my brothers, for a wonderful family holiday, and a safe and healthy new year.

In 50 years of my life my father never told me about his experience in the war. Yesterday he finally did. He is a proud member of the 589th B Co. He was there until October of 67. He came with the first group from Fort Hood. His name is Alfred Mejia JR from Kansas City KS. He is not good with computers and his memory is not what it used to be. He drove dump truck he said. He also talked about being on top of this hill making it all nice and then getting kicked of by the CO or something like that.. he cant remember many names.. The only person he talked about was a guy nicknamed Crackers from NJ.. I didnt want to press him for too much info. but I did show him this website.. he light up like a kid looking at Christmas Presents on Christmas days. If anyone remembers my father or has any questions please feel free to contact me.

Has anyone else received an email urgently requesting money or a Gamestop gift card from one of our members? I received one yesterday. We replied back and forth a few times then I tried to call but it went to his voicemail. I'm pretty sure this was a fraud email by someone that had hacked his address but since I could not confirm it over the phone, I'm not sure and concerned others might be targeted.

This is the email I received in quotes:

"How are you? I need a favor from you.

I need to get a Gamestop Gift Card for my Nephew, Its his birthday but i can't do this now because I'm currently travelling. Can you get it from any store around you? I'll pay back as soon as i am back.

Kindly let me know if you can handle this. (Signed by the sender's name.)

I replied wanting more details and this was his reply:

"Thank you very much. Its a Gift card for video games, Total amount needed for Gamestop Gift Card is $300 from any store around you like Walgreen, CVS or Kroger and I need you to scratch the back of the card to reveal the pin with the serial number and forward it to me here online. Once again thank you very much for this kindness." (Signed by the sender's name.)

If you have received anything like this please let us know by sending an email to: 589th@589thEngineers.com.

Thanks Brothers and wishing all of you a very Happy Thanksgiving. Gobble, gobble!

What a surprise I had on a down escalator last Friday night! As I was going down I saw a 589th hat on a guy. I said I was in the 589th also and I got on the up escalator and the person waited for me to catch up. I met Marion Watkins from Collinsville OK. He was in A Company and knew several of the guys we all know. Glad he was wearing his cap. I had our hoodie on but it was not as noticeable as his hat. We spoke for a few minutes and I hope we do again. Pays to wear our hat!

Perry, I just took a look at the photos on my Chrome Book. The pictures look much better! The arrows did not move to the next picture but when I clicked on the next picture it flipped to it very easily. Job well done I must say!

The next time something like this comes up I would reccomend we have a service conduct this procedure or anyhting similar to it. If something does come up I would think the board could approreaite the funds since we do not meet until 2021. There is no need to take time out of your retirement and time with your family to do this type of things.

Thanks again for a job well done!
Reply You might need to wait a few seconds for the images to load before clicking on the Fwd and Rev arrows depending on your connection speed. Let me know if that resolves the issue. If we have another major issue we may ask the association to step in and help.
Thanks for the kudos
