So sad to hear about John Van Zelf's passing. I spoke with him many times at our reunions. John was a big supporter of the Association. He will be missed.

My wife and I drove to Parma Id and attended his memorial. The service was very nice. One of the main pictures was John was in his Spec 5 uniform. It was as I remembered him so many years ago. He will be missed.

I remember meeting John Vanzelt at the 2014 reunion at Branson. So glad he contacted the unit. Prayers for the family.

Just posted a bio of COL Snoke on the Latest News Page provided by John Ryan. Pretty impressive! John and Fritz attended his memorial service this past Friday and John shared a story or two about the time COL Snoke sent word for him to report to his office.

John handed out some 589th Hats, Unit Crests, Bumper stickers, Shot Glasses, and other items to those in attendance. A big thank you to John and Fritz from all of his 589th Brothers. Well Done!

Be looking for an email from us explaining how to get on the list to receive your free newly minted 589th Challenge Coin. The first distribution of these CC's went out to our HOF Volunteers and any NOK that attended our Memorial Day ceremonies.

The second distribution will be going out to those that reply to our "589th HOF Challenge Coin" email and include their current mailing address.

If you do not get an email from us this week about the coin and how to get one, it means we either do not have an email address for you or maybe our emails are going to your junk folder. Please provide us with a valid email address.

We are also discussing how to get these coins to those w/o email and will post that here ASAP.

The final tally for this year's HOF donations was $9240. Truly amazing and thank you for your generosity in supporting this program. Any excess funds collected this year will be earmarked for future HOF expenses.

As important as the donations were, it is also notable to recognize that we had more contributors to the fund this year than any other year. We had 119 donors this year which was almost double the number for last year.

Just saying hello to Bruce Rittschof. Bruce, I'm from Tomah (but live in California now).

Thank you so much to all of our HOF Volunteers and those that helped in making this another successful Memorial Day remembrance to our Fallen Brothers. There were a few hiccups with the flowers, as there seems to always be, but like true Army Engineers, you rose to the challenge and made do. It's called Field Expedience I believe. I promise to look into each instance and get answers and hopefully solutions.

I am having surgery on my right wrist for severe carpal tunnel syndrome at 6 am tomorrow in case you are wondering why I might not be replying to your emails and text messages. As soon as I can use it I'll get back to each of you. I should be able to function pretty well in a week or so. I had it on my left wrist about 4 weeks ago and it's pretty much back to normal.

I would to thank everyone connected with the HOF program. This very large and beautiful bouquet was dedicated Sat. by Mr. Bob Reinsmith and Mr. Paul Titmus , with all family members present. Perry, flowers arrived Fri. 11:30 at my house, all went well.
