OK, it is time to mark your calendars and register for the 2017 Reunion. Perry has completed work on the registration and the schedule of events pages – there may be some minor changes to the schedule as September approaches, but this will give you a good idea what is planned. We have several additional activities planned to help us celebrate our 50th Anniversary. The first is a day-trip to Ft. Leonard Wood. A bus will pick us up at the Stone Castle in the morning, we will take in some activities at Ft Leonard Wood during the day, and return to the Stone Castle in the late afternoon. Wives are welcome. We have also added some entertainment for both Friday and Saturday nights. We are still working on Friday’s entertainment, but on Saturday our guest speaker at the Farewell Dinner will be CSM Robert Miles, 62nd Engineer Battalion, Ft. Hood, Texas.
So, before you forget, please go the “2017 Reunion” tab and register. The registration fee is only $20 per person, which includes the trip to Ft. Leonard Wood, the welcome reception, the farewell dinner and the entertainment. If you have any questions, please feel free to give Perry or I a call. |

Well I learned one this week, the Board 0ver rules ever thing and the members don't have any say so on anything.
Patsy is doing great. Reply Willie, we are going to Branson and I look forward to seeing you and Patsey there. You have always been the one that encourages others to come. I am hoping you will continue to do that.
It will most likley be in a different location in 2019. I'm glad to hear Patsy is doing great! |

Here's a little info about our 2016 Mini-Reunions.
This was the first year of our decision to have Mini Reunions. The goal was to allow those members in more distant locations the ability to reunite with their Brothers. All things considered, I think they went very well. Several members stepped up to organize and make these happen. Thanks for that go to many but especially to Freddie Guth, Bob Spencer, Dennie Pendergrass, John Van Zelf, David Goodrow, and Bruce Daniels. Well done guys! Here are the numbers: 1) Fort Hood, TX ......45 in attendance 2) VN Wall, DC ........15 in attendance 3) Boise, ID ..............21 in attendance 4) Lexington, KY ......53 in attendance That's a total of 134 of our members and their guests that were reunited this year at Mini's. Compared to our 2015 reunion that had 120 in attendance one could argue they indeed were very successful. :toast: |

Wonder what happened about using the website for stuff like the posts concerning the reunion and something fishy???!!!!
Reply Nick, what was said was "the Guest Book isn’t the place for ongoing debates over single issue questions" Nothing was said about not posting comments about our reunions. I did remove your quote from another member but not your words. I don't have a habit of deleting any member's posts unless I discuss it with the Board first. Please feel free to post about almost anything Brother.

Please let me share my thoughts, and the Board’s, about our 589th reunions. Every one of you probably has an opinion on where we should go, what we should do, and when we should do it. That’s pretty obvious considering the results of our recent survey. By the way, you did not waste your time responding to it. We heard you loud and clear and because of your input, we will be considering another location other than Branson for holding our 589th Association’s 10th anniversary reunion in 2019.
Our By-Laws state that the Board and only the Board has the responsibility for setting the reunion location and date. The Board must consider all of our members not just those that are present at a reunion. All of the Board members met recently, either in person or by phone and after much discussion unanimously agreed to hold our 2017 reunion in Branson. There were many reasons that led to our decision including our past commitment to the Stone Castle and our 589th memorabilia stored there, the logistics of organizing a new location, cost, etc. It was not an easy decision and we knew that it would make some of you happy and others not so much. My hope is that we can put our personal agendas aside and fully support our 2017 reunion. |

I have finally managed to complete an action that has bothered me for 48 years. As EM Plt / C Co was preparing to leave Wunder Beach ("up north" near the DMZ), I ran into a high school class mate of mine, Elliot De Cora, a member of the Ho Chunk Indian tribe. The next day, as we were preparing to depart via LST, a member of his unit ran up to me with the information that Elliot had been killed the night before when his company of the 14th Engineers had been "overrun." After years of searching I found some one who was with Elliot that night. He said Elliott was the unit's machine gunner and fought until his machine gun over heated and would not fire at which point he was killed, and that "Chief certainly held his position." Another web page entry said "I saw Chief's machine gun the next morning with all of the bodies around." The rather unusual circumstances of Elliott and my meeting just before his death bothered me for years - as though there was a reason for us to have met. I have now taken his story home to his family and the Ho Chunk Nation.

Willie,
I don’t understand, but every time a 589th Association decision is made that you don’t agree with (and you don’t agree with much), you declare that something smells “fishy”. Knock it off! If you want to trade places, you need to throw your name in the hat for a seat on the Board…. I will even be your campaign manager. It would be worth it to be able to look over your shoulder for two years and publicly ask, “what smells?” I cannot speak for the future, but I do know that in the past the decisions made on behalf of the Association have been made with the good of the overall organization in mind, not simply to appease the squeaky wheels. In regards to that, there wasn’t an accurate statement in your entire post. In the future, I would appreciate you taking time to check your facts and resist the strategy of simply throwing mud against the wall, only to see what sticks. I have had Patsy on my mind. I hope she is doing well and her prognosis has improved. |

Something smell kind of fishy about this. We voted where we would like for the 2017 reunion to be. 60.33 percent voted for it to be held in Nashville. What happen to that. Is it that members don't have voting rights or is it only left up to a few to pick the place. I probable want be attending. In my opinion the Stone Castle sucks. You an go across the street and a lots better room for the same price. I guess I was wrong about every thing.

Don't forget to thank yourself as you look in a mirror today too! One of the proudest feelings I have is to be a Veteran of the Military of this great country! I can't but help remember how I felt when I landed in Vietnam and thought about what I was in for, of course my imagination was running wild. The biggest thing I learned in Nam was how my Dad and all his buddies felt during the reunions they had after WWII and they would not answer some of our questions. Since I have been a member of the 589th I now know why they took some time for themselves away from all their families and just talked. Happy Veterans Day to all my 589th Brothers!
