I agree with Mr. McLain and Mr. Jinkins. The nation has been divided by politics during the last 2 decades and it appears to be getting worse. I fear the organization will suffer, if political rhetoric is the way of the future. It's not the direction I thought we were headed.

The 589th rules have always been - no politics and no religious talk on the web page and during the official parts of the 589th reunions. People have plenty of other opportunities to express their views in this nation. For me, the 589th Association has been about healing pain; clarifying memories; honoring those we lost; and assisting each other as best we can as we and our wives enter the last phase of our lives. For me, political rants detract from what we (I thought) were about. If this is going to be a change (or has changed) for the 589th - count me out.

Perry, do you know if the mini-reunion at Ft. Hood was videoed or taped? If it was I really would like a copy. Thanks.
Reply Roger,
I was told it was but as of now I have not seen anything. WO1 Michael L Kelly was going to send me photos and the video. As soon as I get them they will be posted.

With apologies to my brothers on this blog the following maxim might be heeded with regard to political discussions. It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt
Reply Sounds like some good advice for Obama!

“The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men should do nothing.”

Hey Hank good to see you on here!I was a 3rd shop mechanic in Aco from may 70 thru may 71. Ive looked at you picts and recognized lot of the men we served with during this time.I agree with your comments about Hussein, worse pres ever, on the other hand my son is on Air Force 1 and he reminds me"dad im doing this for america"political choices aside. I'm interested to see what he has to say about the Nam 45yrs since i was there. I went to Bastogne Belgium few yrs back, took some picts, gave them to my dad and he said "it didnt look like this when i was there during the Bulge so i might be saying the same thing! Only 7 more months! Anyway,Welcome Home!I also saw Bill Snedeker was on here, dont know if you remember him or not.Him,Chester Hibbs and "Rock" Ribaric hung around together.Their picts are under Daniels listing. Have a Happy Memorial Day to all my Brothers who served and are serving!

I have my political opinions and opinions of politicians just as we all do.I would suggest that we focus our correspondence on the things that bring, and hold us together and try to avoid things that could come between us and separate us.With respect ,brotherhood, and Love.Welcome home
Reply Since all of us here served our country in Vietnam and we are between the ages of 60 and xxx we should be able to hear someone else's opinion without getting too inflamed. Just keep it civil.

Well then, haven't things started to liven up a little.
Was just sitting down to write another episode of
"Spongebob Squarepants", and I noticed some dust rolling out of the tree line. .. sure enough , it's the same old crowd making mischief at our old stomping grounds. This is a Beautiful Country , cherished by those who have been privileged to fight for Her. How I feel will not be diminished by Political Jackwads
in our Capital or anywhere else...just remember to get your boots on the right foot and vote, it damn sure counts every time. Nodof! P.S. Welcome home!
Reply The problem is, as those political jackwads go so goes our country.

Just want to give a shout out to Denis Cowand for finding a photo of Anthony Werner, another one of our Fallen Brothers we did not have a photo of.

Thanks from all of us Denis for taking the time and effort to do this. I think it is very important that we continue to try and put a face to all those we lost in Vietnam. You can see his photo on his dedicated webpage under Fallen Brothers/In Vietnam
